ARCHIVED FEATURED PRACTITIONER

While adhering to these traditions, there are some modern aspects to the approach that Americans can appreciate. In Michigan, patients first ask their physician for a referral for acupuncture. The needles are sterile, single use, and disposable so as to minimize the risk of infection or transmission of germs. My herbal pharmacy consists of herbs in a concentrated granular form. This means that the potency of each batch of herbs is consistent each time and that the herbs can be capsulized for easy ingestion.

The heart of the TCM system speaks to a balance in life in work, at home and at rest. Often I will ask my patients to do a few simple acupressure points as homework, and to watch their diet, making some dietary suggestions that go along with the course of treatment. Through the use of acupuncture and herbs I work to help you restore your natural balance and reach a new level of health.

It was a beautiful fall day in Los Angeles when my friend, after a year of nudging, finally convinced me to attend traditional Chinese medicine school. We left the park, where we practiced taijiquan each morning in L.A.’s China town and drove to the open house at SAMRA University of Oriental medicine.

SAMRA was a short distance from where I worked in L.A. but a world away from the life I had been living. My years of practice in martial arts gave only a starting place for the depth and complexity of the traditional medical system I was to learn. Since graduating from SAMRA and doing my post-graduate studies in China I have dedicated myself to the practice of traditional Chinese medicine through the modalities of acupuncture and Chinese herbology.
