Chetna Desai came to the United States in 1994 from India as a Registered Physical Therapist. She also has a diploma in Naturopathy. She also did post graduate work in SPINE through the Mc Kenzie Institute USA in 2000 and became a certified Massage Therapist in 2004. Previously in India, she had developed allergies. Deciding to do self-help, she managed to cure herself of any allergies by fasting, juicing, and developing a healthy lifestyle. Her dream was to become a lifestyle consultant marrying the two fields of Physical Therapy and Naturopathy.
While working in Lansing, Chetna became disillusioned with the corporate environment. Chetna then joined the Wellness Center in Okemos as a Physical Therapist. Presently, at the Wellness Center, she teaches patients how to have a healthy lifestyle. She is the “instrument” and inspiration for the patient to clear their thinking. She becomes their support system to a better, holistic way of life.
Chetna stated that some clients take 14 different drugs, or have family problems, or job stress, along with physical problems. She starts by changing one small item in the diet or lifestyle. She uses supplements only as a last resort. Patients reap the benefits of her extensive background and training in Craniosacral Therapy, Myofacial Release, and Trigger Point Release, so she can care for people with neurological and musculoskeletal disorders. In a personal and confidential setting Chetna facilitates the client’s spiritual growth, providing an environment for life style adaptation, and implementing a positive healthy attitude. She said she wants patients to be able to ‘drink bliss’ each day.
In her home, Chetna mirrors what she teaches her patients: a balance in her own life and family. She spends mornings teaching Yoga first, then at home cooking, and being with her children. She has a son age 19, and a daughter, age11, who are home schooled by her husband. Chetna facilitates a free Traditional Yoga class along with other community members at the Temple in Haslett every morning from 7:00 to 8:00 am. She concentrates on postures, breathing, and meditation. Chetna also integrates her Yoga in her treatment with patients teaching relaxation, deep breathing, visualization and meditation. She also offers workshops and seminars on Naturopathy, Yoga, Reiki, cooking and meditation.
